Early cricket career of Mohammed Shami
Uttar Pradesh-born Mohammed Shami could not be selected for his state’s Under-19 team, after which on the advice of coach Badruddin Siddiqui, Shami moved to Kolkata and started playing for Dalhousie Athletic Club. Devvrat Das, former assistant secretary of the Bengal Cricket Association, caught sight of him and sent Shami to Mohun Bagan Club. Under the tutelage of former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly at the Mohun Bagan club, Shami worked hard in the nets and took over 40 wickets for the town club in the Kolkata League. Soon after, he was given a chance to play for the Bengal Ranji team.

Mohammed Shami’s International Cricket Career
ODI
Mohammed Shami Biography Due to his excellent domestic performances, he was selected for the Indian team in 2013. He made his One Day International (ODI) debut against Pakistan in Delhi on 6 January 2013, where he made a strong impression by taking one wicket for 23 runs. In 9 overs, which also includes four maiden overs. In 2014, Shami shone in a series against New Zealand, taking 11 wickets at an average of 28.72. He achieved a remarkable feat in the 2014 Asia Cup and became the second Indian bowler to take the fastest 50 ODI wickets.

Tests
Mohammed Shami’s Test debut was on 6 November 2013 against West Indies in Kolkata, where he took 9 wickets, which is a record for an Indian fast bowler in a debut match. His stellar performances earned him a place in the squad for the South Africa series, where he took 6 wickets in two matches. Shami took 15 wickets in five innings in the 2014–15 Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
In June 2021, Shami played in the first ICC World Test Championship final against New Zealand. In the first innings, he performed brilliantly by taking four wickets, however, he could not repeat it in the second innings. Subsequently, he was part of the Indian team for the series against England and South Africa. Against England, he took 11 wickets in five innings, and against South Africa, he took 14 wickets in three matches, including his first five-wicket haul in Tests.

T20I:
Mohammed Shami made his T20 International debut on 21 March 2014 against Pakistan. In his debut match, he took his first wicket by dismissing Umar Akmal for 31 runs in 4 overs. He continued to impress in his second T20I against England, where he took three important wickets. However, he had a gap of almost two years before making a comeback in the T20I format against the West Indies, but he could not make much of an impact.
Shami had a relatively normal performance in the T20Is and got a chance to play in the three-match T20 series against New Zealand, where he managed to take only two wickets.
